Flatback Turtle Competition

Care For Hedland’s community-based turtle monitoring program was established in 2004 to provide a much-needed role for the awareness and conservation of the local threatened Flatback sea turtle species Natator depressus. The presence of Flatback turtles in Hedland gives a unique opportunity for the community and visitors to the area to be actively involved in contributing to the monitoring of the protected species.

The Esplanade Hotel in conjunction with Care for Hedland are offering Pilbara residents the opportunity to help promote awareness of the Care For Hedland Turtle Monitoring Program with our Flatback Turtle Art Competition. 

How to enter 

To enter, create any artwork (painting, drawing, sculpture etc.) and provide a physical submission to The Esplanade Hotel as well as your name and contact details. Feel free to post an image of your creation on Instagram and tag us @esplanadeporthedland and @careforhedland to promote your artwork! 

The Prize for this Competition is a Care for Hedland Adopt a Turtle Pack valued at $500

  • You get to name the turtle
  • Certificate of adoption
  • Medium turtle soft toy
  • Turtle postcards (6)
  • Care For Hedland corporate membership
  • Personalised end of season report detailing your turtles nesting efforts (and the whole season nesting effort).

The competition commences at 9:00am on Friday, 20th September 2019.  The competition will close at 11:59pm AEST on Sunday, 20th October 2019.  Entries received outside of this time will not be considered.  Entry is open to all Pilbara residents.

 

The winner will be public announced during the live broadcast on Spirit FM 94.1 from The Esplanade Hotel between 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday, 24th October 2019.
